hi all,
I've recently been given this tortoise but dont know how old it is or what type is it either, i think it may be a salcata as we live close to africa and i was told it came from the sahara, any ideas?

He does have some shell damage due to a dog attack

It's not a sulcata. Not real familiar with a lot of other species, so I will leave this up to who I think will know. @tortadise @HermanniChris

That is without a doubt a Testudo graeca and more then likely a Testudo graeca soussensis.

Impossible to know really but he could be 15-20 years or so.

With regards to his shell injury what do you think, is it very serious?
It only happened yesterday and I've cleaned it all up well and there are no punctures, he's still eating fine and seemed as happy as always when i up him out in the sun today

Definitely most likely isn't serious, you'd be surprised what they can handle.
