He's home!!!
I met the veterinarian who has been fostering him today halfway. She's in eastern Oregon and I'm near the coast. She gave me a run down of his history, his personality , diet, etc. She specializes in reptiles, and has many rescues tortoises, boxies, lizards and snakes. She's a sweet lady, and is passionate about reptiles. I love this woman, She offered to be a hard working volunteer for Oregon-Washington Tortoise Rescue.
We met for lunch, then got Oliver out of the car for a brief introduction.
He wasn't completely excited about it...he meandered off to the grassy area behind the restaurant to munch on some fresh grass.
Soon it was time for Dr Jodi to say goodbye...she was reluctant to let him go, but wanted him to have more space...and soon I will be moving to a place with lots of property and room for many large tort pens.
I decided to try picking him up. Both he and I grunted all the way to my SUV.
So now he's home, a bit stressed. TFO member met me to lend me a pig warmer so for now, he's on the living room, on the pig warmer, covered in a dark blanket and he seems relaxed and sleeping. I'm going to leave him alone for the weekend while he gets used to me, the dogs, the smells, and soon I'm setting up the garage with a dirt area, heat lamps, a PowerSun and more space.
In January I'm moving to a horse ranch and I will provide him a more appropriate house. For now, he is inside, where it's warm and he can explore and bash my furniture as much as he pleases,
