There is often a noticable difference in how hybrids look and how pardalis or babcocki look too, as is believed in your tortoises case. But, those observations are based on pictures on the internet and all the hatchlings I've seen...so really what it boils down to is if the breeder can prove the origin of the animals, or if DNA testing can be done.

John, I would be like you in willing to show the import documents I had to anyone who asks. But, some of the people who are actually producing the pardalis are very secretive to begin with. In about ten years or so when all these babies start reaching sexual maturity and people start claiming they have pure pardalis, that might change the game for those breeders.

I find it pretty hard to understand why this isn't already happening. The two breeders that I know of (there may be more that I don't know about) have been selling offspring for 20 years. It only takes 6-7 years for them to hit maturity, so why don't we see anyone else producing them in any numbers? You occasionally see something on KS, but not on a scale like these two. 8-10 years from now, I intend to be turning them out in droves.

This has been a good thread and very interesting to me. Thanks John.

I have to say Tom your mentioning of the lack of pardalis is something I am wondering also, where are they all? there has to be breeding pairs out there somewhere.

Its controversial John... thats all I can tell ya

Can you be any more specific than that? I understand that there are some things that can't be discussed publically, but if there is anything more that you can share about this, I would be VERY interested!
