Hi my tortoise is called Sheldon, he is such a healthy boi but today I noticed him making these noises? I'll attach a video if I can . I'm booking him into the vet but I need to know if it can wait until next Thursday because if all appointments are booked tommorow the tortoise specialist wont be back until next week! I think it's a respiratory thing but I've a tendency to freak when it comes to my babies. His humidity today was 85% at highest and 40 at lowest ( wasn't misted when it should've been) will he be okay if god forbid it's fully booked tommorow?

It won't let me attach a video but basically his throat moves and makes a pop, then followed by a whistle / squek

What type of tortoise is it? If it is a humidity loving tortoise it could just be because the humidity dropped. How old is he?

He is a horse field , he's 3 or 4 as shop couldn't give me a exact age.
Did you get him from petsmart? A lot of russian tortoises from petsmart are actually a lot older than the petsmart employees say and a lot of them are wild caught. His humidity does not need to be 85% as russian tortoises don't need that much humidity to thrive.

Yeah his humidity was fluctuating since I put new substrate in and I'm hopeing to change it soon just waiting for the package. But no I live in Northern Ireland we only really have 1 petsmart and it's too far away. I bought him from a shop called Belfast city reptiles but they have went bust a year or so ago

Russian tortoises only need 30-50% humidity. Try keeping it in that range rather than the 80% range. I'm wondering if it's a respiratory infection. See how he does with the lower humidity range.

I'm really not sure, it's awful! I really thought like you know I had a baby tortoise because he was my first tortoise and i had nothing to compare his size to but he was about 10 years old, the same age as me at the time!

See that makes more sense than the 60 I was told by my friend . I'll try that. When the humidity lowers if he gets better is it still a good idea to take him to the vet ? Sorry for torturing everyone with long messages but Ive had him since I was 12 so freaking a bit a d would hate for him to be ill

See mine could be 40 freaking 2 and I'd be none the wiser . I researched everything EXCELT for age because I trusted that the pet shop would be correct. I can't believe that some places can get away with that

I know how much you love your tortoise. If he doesn't get better when you lower the humidity it might be a good idea to bring him to the vet, if he is doing better you will know that the high humidity was the issue.

Thanks. My dad literally just gave me a lecture on how panicky I am with him, I could have a limb hanging off but id be conserved he wasn't drinking lol. I was afraid incase it had progressed to pnemaunia or anything but it's only been high humidity for maybe a month? Before that I just misted it every so often . Thanks everyone lol panic over
