I'm still researching my options & these two caught my eye from the SDTTS.

Ok, I think it's a desert tortoise. I found a few on here. That's what the description said but I wanted to double check. Rescues make mistakes too!

:D nothing like answer your own questions. Yes, rescues can and do make make mistakes, so your smart to not just take their word for it. Are you thinking a DT? If so, lucky you. I had one once and would give anything for another one to fall into my lap. Mine was old, but his personality and those eyes! :D

They are my favorite species, much easier and more fun to keep they most species. They have the best personalities...Gopherus agassizii

Thanks ladies. I'm still getting my husband used to the idea of getting a tortoise. I have to be be very careful. I showed him a few Alabra's on here and they freaked him out. I'm not ready for one anyways but if I start off slow and smaller maybe I could work my way up the ladder. Hee Hee. He just doesn't get the reptile obsession. I grew up w/ 3 toed's as a child and had to give them up when I became a live in nanny and we moved to another state. I really needed a job back then. I think he would be more excepting if he saw how cute a hatchling is. But then the other part of me wants to adopt/rescue one. Sorry for rambling. Once I decide I can start designing an enclosure.
