Some of you may remember that recently I rescued a redfoot in bad shape, and was to rescue another 2 from the same owner. The owner is actually a bit out of it (not sure the right way to say it as he has mental problems and I'm not sure what) and seems to be a reptile hoarder, he has quite a few and they are all kept very poorly. The person who introduced us and got him to hand over his torts to me so they would have a better life, and the two of us are trying to get him to rehome the rest of them until he's down to a reasonable amount and can care for them properly. As I said he is a bit out of it so in order to keep him from getting too upset the plan was to get just one tort today and then the last one next week. To my surprise he was ready to hand over both and so I got both today. Ill attach pictures of them before their baths and then some of after... It's pretty gross I must say.

Those are of the one I was supposed to he today, and yes the brown color in the first two pics is caked on sh**. The last one is him cleaned for today, ill clean him up more in the light tomorrow.

I didn't get many pictures of this guy, he's the biggest and the one I was expecting toget next week, however I couldn't say no so I got him today instead.

The problem with getting them today is I wasn't really ready, I have the first one I got from him in a 100 gallon makeshift tub, and was planning in putting the 2 together, well now all 3 are together, until the next day or two when I can go get 2 more 50 tubs and make a big 200 gallon for them to share until the end of the summer when I can make them proper tanks(sooner if possible)

I'm not sure, I know he has an iguana and a bunch of turtles. We talked a bit about how to care for them today and the girl got him to clean out their tanks today. So I know he's on the right track, as long as we can get him to continue then the animals will have a better life. But I don't know what else I anything else he has. Ill probably end up with some turtles by the end of all this too.

I do want to say he seemed very nice and seemed to care about them a bunch, just didn't know how to care for them at all. He seemed like he wanted to cry when he gave them to me.

Water was definitely the culprit here as well, or lack there of, I soaked both of them for 30-45 min when we got home, they both drank a ton. As soon as I put them in the tank they went straight for the water and drained it before eating. I soaked them individually so I could clean the crap from between the scutes and it happened for both of them.

Phew. Not the worst redfoot I've seen, but you can tell pure neglect when you see it.

Hope these guys thrive under your care! Get them out under some sun soon! The one looks like he needs it desperately.

Oh I am so glad you saved them and they have a chance to live at least the rest of their life with some semblance of peace.

Awesome! I'm glad you were able to take these guys in. Not the worst we've seen on the forums, but certainly not good.

Right on. Its always sad when ignorance preceeds heart connections. Im glad they are well cared for and that the man had the comfort of knowing his friends are on their way to healing

I honestly don't know, he didn't let anyone in his house. I think that its possible they were just allowed to roam the house.

Thanks for the accolades, but I am just doing what I can for the torts. The cool part in all of this is that I was trying to decide between getting box turtles or redfoots, turns out I didn't have to make the decision or pay for them haha. Worked out all around if you ask me.

I just hope that this guy doesn't get any more tortoises.... he has his sights on a sulcata.... as much as I would love a free sulcata I explained to him why it was a bad idea. He didn't realize how big they get, or how much care they needed, so I am pretty sure he knows its a bad idea now. We chatted for a while so he would know that his redfoot were going to a good home and so that I would know he knows not to get a sulcata haha.
