Aesthetically, its gorgeous. I agree with the other comments regarding wall height, hides, and the need for an increased length.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by the following statement?

The whole idea behind the pen is that vivariums are dangerous and can be known to cause the tortoise alot of problems...

What problems have you identified with vivariums? I'm curious to see how your enclosure is addressing the problems you've identified.

Its a great project!

Hello,

Yes I would be happy to elaborate, I was reading this article on 'the tortoise trust' website and this report said that this particular starter kit from amazon is dangerous and that vivariums are not ideal for tortoises.

here is the link if you would like to have a read

http://www.tortoisetrust.org/articles/vivreport.html

The design brief I set myself with this product was 'to design a tortoise pen of which gives greater interaction between tortoise and owner. The product should be made from sustainable materials whilst being aesthetically pleasing and meet all the needs of the tortoise to provide a realistic living environment'.

Thanks Sam

Also forgot to mention that the tortoise pen is to be a budget option, as some vivarium's are £100+ where as a product such as mine can be made for £30-£50. Cost is a key factor in any product, it has to be commercially viable.

Thanks Sam

As much as the TT is a great tortoise organisation, some of it's care is questional (for instance using sand in substrate) and although I do agree with some of their points, they have yet to really grasp the idea of humidity in shell growth-they did some studies for med torts a while back which showed very very low humidity levels in the wild. So yes for a lot of species a table works, but a viv can also work.

You can get around the need for a much higher wall by using a wall a bit higher than you have, and putting an inside lip around the top
