I’ll try and get another vid. I do swear her wheezing sounded loud this morning. I could hear her breathing a couple feet away from her enclosure. Sometimes when she’s not actively stretching out her neck intensely you can’t hear it. In that video, she’s mostly alert but resting. Other times she’s really extending her neck and you can hear and see her inhaling/exhaling pretty intensely.

Least you’ve figured out videos, hopefully you’ll get a better one at some point. She’s such a pretty girl🥰

Oh do I hear it better yes, though it doesn’t sound too horrible in this video to me, I can see why you want to get to the bottom of this
Yes. I don’t think it sounds major but has been consistent. She’s doing good I think, I just think it hasn’t gone away fully. I’m hoping the course of this next antibiotic just helps us clear this out and never get another respiratory infection again 😂 thankful y’all have been so compassionate to my very anxious tortoise keeper self.

Yeah I’m thinking maybe the first round just didn’t quite cut it, but she’s not gasping or anything which is great, she’s eating, alert etc, she’s going to get through this🥰

I only hear normal breathing.

You were rightfully spooked by the original respiratory problem and could now be being a tad on the hyper-vigilant side? My Red Foot sounds like that sometimes and I think its just normal.
Mine also will hisss if I startle her, and the little bit of noise could be her being on the verge of hissing because you were pointing that weird thing (camera) at her and infringing on her personal space. It really is a little disconcerting for something so much bigger than she is to be close enough to grab her... 'Just sayin'.

You did a great job of getting her back on her feet! She seems to be recovered. Step back a bit and see. On some levels our tortoises are "greenhouse" fragile, and on some levels sturdy survivors who have managed to out-live several epochs of time and changes. As long as she's eating and pooping and wandering around, she's probably just fine. I'd wait a bit longer to see if she even needs another round of antibiotics.

I think I will do the round of antibiotics since that is what the vet suggested we do! Maybe the videos I am posting are not capturing what I’m hearing and doing it justice. I made sure to turn off background noise and record her in her soak this morning. I personally do hear a whistle in her breathing that she didn’t used to have. If y’all could just give this last one a listen and let me know what you think. I don’t think it’s dire, she’s alert and overall yawning less, not chewing on air etc other signs of respiratory illness. Just don’t want it to progress again and want to make sure I cover all my tracks. Maybe this whistle will just stick. But she didn’t have it before about a month ago.

This is the clearest one yet! And actually, after hearing this one, I’m inclined to agree with @COmtnLady here, this sound like normal heavy breathing to me, they breathe heavier sometimes, in this instance I can tell she was working on a poop? We all know that little push sound😂❤️I’d probably wait a teeny bit longer before giving more medicine too, I’m always a bit nervous giving advice like that, so maybe just a few more days, but I really don’t think she sounds that bad, and if she’s improving overall, I’m inclined to say she’s perfectly fine too, she looks beautiful!!

This is a total side track, but I’m trying to create some nice videos to help promote the forum, this video is a really cute background, don’t suppose you’d mind me using it? And your last one? No pressure if not! She’s just so precious🐢💚

Well crap maybe this is just normal heavy breathing then! I did start the antibiotic already… is that alright? I can stop it. She does sound significantly better than a month ago and she’s made so much progress so maybe I have been a bit hyper vigilant this past week from residual tortoise caretaker stress lol. And yes you are definitely welcome to share vids I’ve posted, I know she’s so cute and honestly precious!

As you’ve started it, I’d probably do the whole course but let’s double check with @zovick @Yvonne G and @Tom, perhaps they’ll look at the vids for you too.

I hope we’ve helped eased your nerves a bit❤️

Yes, once started, it is best to give all the prescribed doses of antibiotics. Stopping the treatment early can lead to the creation of bacteria which are immune to the antibiotic which can wreak havoc in the future and cause an infection which cannot be controlled by the antibiotic.

Here’s Rojita this evening! Her appetite has been great. This week is finally warming up and I’m so relieved to get her outdoors soon. I do take certain measures while she’s outside to make sure she doesn’t overheat, like deep layered shade. I’ll be working on her outdoor this month and it’s gonna be a great project to work on. I’ll finish this course of antibiotic since I already started it and take a step back from analyzing every little thing she does lol. My goals this year are to upgrade her indoor enclosure to an 8x2 and get her outdoor area escape proof, proper drainage, plenty of layered shade and Redfoot approved lol.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to update. Rojita is still eating well and has one more week of the antibiotic left. It’s started to warm up a bit so I took her outside today and I noticed she had a bit of a limp/wobbly walk. Is this something I should be worried about? I know I’ve been so stressed and this thread is long but I just want to make sure she’s getting what she needs.

I would suspect an egg retention or constipation but since X-rays were clear it's something less serious. It could be just some weakness from staying in the enclosure for a long time. Watch her for a couple of days, I expect her walk to improve.

Would just a few months in her enclosure cause that?

That's my best guess :( I saw something similar with my tortoise but not completely sure if it's the same issue.

Maybe more experienced members can come up with better suggestions.

I understand. I hope it is that and she can regain some strength as I transition her to outdoors again. I’m thinking it could also be her diet and/or just getting over the resp. Infection still. Maybe other symptoms are gone but could be a bit weak.
