Hi all. I have been a tortoise owner now for about 5 months and my Russian Bananas seems to be doing very well. He has a good routine, eats plenty, and here in the northeast, i just got him a nice outdoor enclosure (though so far he seems slow to adjust to the new environment). So, all seems to be good.

All that said, not sure if i need to be trimming his nails. I have a few rocks in his enclosure that he walks on quite a bit (I always put his food on one and the other is under his basking lamp), but I am not sure if that is enough to keep his nails trim. What is the proper length?

Thanks
JimV

No need to trim his nails. Russian tortoises do seem to have longer nails, it's perfectly normal for them.
