Russian tortoise shell issues?

Just got this tortoise today from a coworker who no longer could take care of it. Just wondering if its shell looks like it has issues. This is my first tortoise so I'm am not yet confident in self diagnosing issues.

Welcome to the forum. Your Russian tortoise looks typical. You should soak him in shallow warm water. Please search the care sheet on the forum for his care. If you post a picture of the plastron (bottom of the shell) and tail area, someone will be able to help you determine male or female.

Based off the tail I was thinking male.

Please read the sheets. The claws look quite long. Can you see if you have a reptile shop near where you are who has a knowledgeable person to check claws and beak? Try to introduce warm shallow water soaks in a high sided container for hydration and add calcium to the fresh leaf diet for strong healthy shell, bones, claw and beak. Please ask questions. You will find your new shelled warrior fun to keep but it needs the correct conditions.
