Russians arm

I was just patting my Russian and picked him up and rubbed his arm... He quickly hid into his shell and made a weird noise like you were breathing in very quickly .. Is there something wrong he's never done that before ....

That's a competely normal exhalation caused by pulling himself into his shell when he has been startled. Absolutely nothing to worry about.

Thank goodness I thought he had a broken arm or something ... Thanks for the advice :)

That's a normal response to being frightened. We call it "hissing." It's an exhalation that serves to both make room inside the shell for the head and limbs, and to scare away potential predators, such as human beings! ;)

Okay I won't be touching his arm anytime soon now ! He really did scare me away I thought he was choking! Haha
