Weirdest scutes I have ever seen. Anyone have a tortoise worse off? Wish I would have been able to know what kind of incubation set up this girl came out of, so strange.

A scute is those sections that you see covering the carapace. This animal has a few extra ones.

Here are a couple of more examples

Jaqui that last photo you posted makes me feel better about my tortoises janky back! At least she's in good company.

Not sure exactly old, just acquired her recently. The people who gave her to me had owned her for 3 years; so she is older than that for certain and she was not a hatchling when they got her so maybe 5ish years. Just a guess though.

I love the last pic Jacqui. Nice different scute pattern.
Be careful, Katherine, Jacqui loves extra scutes. She comes up missing, don't worry, you'll know where she's at.

My Russian has an extra one near the back of her shell, it is not as noticeable because of where it is. I think your tort is beautiful, very individual :)

Does this occur in the wild? Or is it just captive incubated eggs?

Mine does not have any extra scutes but extra scutes i fine no bad effect. They still have a great personality :)

It can happen in the wild too.

Yeppers I do love them interesting scute tortoises. In fact, I often buy such tortoises just because of that reason. So if you ever tire of her, she is always welcomed at my place. :D

Here's one of my sullies

She's really shy and for some reason, way more pyramided than the others. Been trying to raise the humidity.
