My golden Greek name Sally has a darker shell than most females and I was wondering why because it seems out of the ordinary

Your avatar picture really isn't big enough for us to get a good idea of the tortoise. If you'll post two nice clear shots of the top shell and the bottom shell, @HermanniChris can tell you for sure what sub species your Greek tortoise is. The term "Golden Greek" is tossed around quite a bit, but really isn't an actual sub species of the Greek tortoise.

It does look like its from either Syria or Jordan which puts it in the "Golden Greek" category but as Yvonne states, golden Greek is not an acceptable term since not all tortoises from these regions are golden. Some are quite dark. The term golden Greek comes from dealers that labeled them as such due to the common occurrence of gold specimens. It holds no significance in the proper terminology of the Greek tortoises of these areas.

To sum it up, yes it seems as though your animal does descend from there even though you are not seeing the classic golden color typically associated with them like the animal in the attached picture of ours here..ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1449523574.015499.jpg
