I noticed this the other day on my tortoise. I honestly thought he got to rubbing against the house or something. Is this fungus? And if so how do I treat it?

Looks like rubbing to me. However is he kept too dry? Some of his scutes are splitting. Did you get him that way? Hopefully he has a night box for sleeping and those colder days. Add some humidity in it with a bucket of water, made so he can't get to it. Tom uses gallon milk jugs and leaves the tops off. On those warm/hot days, set up a outdoor mister or sprinkler to up the humidity.

Hi and welcome! Where is the tortoise kept? Is he with other animals?

That looks like abrasion to me. Is this tortoise housed in cinder blocks? Where is the night house? Do you have see through fencing as part of the enclosure, like chain link?

Tortoises don't get fungus on their sides, and sulcatas really don't get fungus on their shells at all. Shell rot is most commonly seen in red foot tortoises and its usually associated with overly wet substrate.

It could be something fungal. Hard to know just from pictures. Is the shell flaky, some parts look like it. Is it just on 'ridges' that could have rubbed against something or is it in 'valleys' also?
