I am wondering if a tortoises shell is naturally warmer on the back end than the front. My tortoise's shell has been feeling warm to the touch on the back end and cooler in the front. Sun exposure and outside temperature does not seem to matter as I've observed this for several days now with different variables.

I know...I feel like I'm going crazy here. I've thought, "Am I just super over analyzing everything or are all these things part of why he is this sick?" I am trying to put all the pieces together so I can help him. When I look at him I can see the misery he is in and I'm trying to do whatever I can for him. I've even thought that putting him down may be the best thing for him at this point. We have been through a lot. I feel I've tried everything I could yet I'm still failing him.

I wondered about the shell temperature because from my experience I know that if a human has an infection it can oftentimes feel hot to touch. When I took a stool sample in because of the diarrhea he was having the vet told me he had a lot of bacteria in the bowl and put him on antibiotics. Since he hasn't eaten and won't take the pills I wondered if it is infected and inflamed so badly that it is causing the heat. I feel like that would be a reasonable explanation but I don't have enough experience with tortoises to know if their shells are that warm. That's why I asked.
