If he chews on it, it will help file the beak down, and also give him calcium - so yes, do put a lump in his tank, and leave it there. He may not be interested at first, but go back to it at some future time - or else go mad for it at first, then ignore it ever after, like our tortoise did ! It is a good thing to have, which causes no problems - don't give him fancy flavoured ones, though.

Keeping cuttlebone or chalk in the habitat of the turtle or tortoise allows the animal to take in calcium whenever they think they need it. These also aid in keeping their beaks trim.

An animal will know it’s own nutritional needs more than you will, they will feel when they need calcium, just like how people often feel when they need to eat something sugary for their blood sugar levels.

If you are adding cuttlebone to your animal’s enclosure, you can leave it in there until it has all been consumed, and then replace it.

After seeing your other thread, be sure to trim the beak. It's severely overgrown and cuttlebone alone won't file it down.

For supplements, use Rep-Cal Herptivite. Sprinkle on a favorite food item 2-3 times a week. It's the safest supplement, and also contains calcium.
