I have mentioned that I sift cypress mulch in the past so I took some pics today while doing it.I do this with aged mulch, but will work with fresh mulch as well.I do this because sometimes the large pieces are not needed or wanted for hatchlings enclosures.I've had this mulch for over 2 years so it has decomposed in the original bag enough to my liking. I use 1/2 inch hardware cloth (rat wire) for the first sift. It looks like this before siftingPicture 1cy.jpgThis is whats left after siftingPicture 2cy.jpg And this is what went through the wirePicture 3cy.jpg This is what didn't make it through the wirePicture 4cy.jpg Then if I want it finer for like baby box turtles I sift it again with a smaller wirePicture 5cy.jpg This is what I get after the second siftPicture 6cy.jpg Here is a comparesion of them from start to finishPicture 7cy.jpg Nothing goes to waste I use them all, just fir different torts.
