I have mentioned that I sift cypress mulch in the past so I took some pics today while doing it.I do this with aged mulch, but will work with fresh mulch as well.I do this because sometimes the large pieces are not needed or wanted for hatchlings enclosures.I've had this mulch for over 2 years so it has decomposed in the original bag enough to my liking. I use 1/2 inch hardware cloth (rat wire) for the first sift. It looks like this before sifting
This is whats left after sifting
And this is what went through the wire
This is what didn't make it through the wire
Then if I want it finer for like baby box turtles I sift it again with a smaller wire
This is what I get after the second sift
Here is a comparesion of them from start to finish
Nothing goes to waste I use them all, just fir different torts.
