This is one of two snakes that hang out by my fish pond. One is a bright gold Everglades Rat snake and I HAD thought that this one was a black rat snake.
But now that I've had a better look....it looks like a California King to me.
Any input?
I live in south Florida and this snake has been here for years.

It's a Kingsnake but I am not sure it's a California king. The banding looks a little like a eastern king but not what I would expect in Florida.

I consulted my Common Kingsnakes book. Brian Hubbs is the author.
I don't know where in Florida you live but his book show large areas of intergrade between Lampropeltus g. floridana and L.g.getula

That is not a Cal King. Pattern isn't right. Certainly could be some sort of hybrid. Sorry, I only know a few of our native snakes.

He/she was docile enough to be handled like that??! Wow! Pretty snake for sure. Does it feed on your pond fish?

It feeds on rats that come to the pond via mango trees.
I live in south east Florida
I know exactly where Sunrise is. It's South-West from where I used to live. So if he/she feeds on rats than this is pretty much symbiotic relationship. Give the snake a name and consider him yours:)
