Like what grandpa turtle posted?
Yes - sometimes they are black or cream but all do the same job. I use one and run it through a thermostat which you set at the required temperature and it switches the CHE on and off if the temps rise and falls - keeps temps even and safe.
Apologies if I'm preaching to the converted or repeating another member but don't use any coiled, or long thin loop type cfl bulbs as these damage torts eyes. Torts are also confused/stressed by coloured lamps - especially red.

I actually need to check that. My dad just bought 4 baby ponytail palms and I was thinking about putting one in there if it's safe.
Don't forget to re pot in chemical free soils - (nothing with little white bits in it) and wait until any fertilisers, that may have been used by suppliers of plants, have grown out. If you leave the plant in a pot and sink that into the substrate it is easier to replace if nibbled or bulldozed by tort.
