I've seen their colors change some from the first month thru the first year.

But never like this one!

He hatched in July '06.. looked like this shortly afterwards.. [ just before shipping him to his new keeper ].. check out the colors and patterns on his head..

For whatever reason his new keeper could not care for him properly so he was sent back to me. He is small but is fine otherwise.

The color changes are amazing to me.. and I've seen a few! Compare the patterns on his head..

I think I'll keep him..

Hmmm, looks like he got into some bleach :)

I wonder if it has anything to do with a certain diet?

Looks like a bottle blond to me, you can even see the dark roots. LOL That is strange and intriqueing how not only the carapace lightened but the head scales too.

Now he's my kind of tort. Using the last picture, did anybody but me notice, if you look at the top of his head, with his body closest to you, that he has a smiling face?

I have a thing about looking for the "hidden picture" in the torts patterns. It's often a deciding factor for me, all other things being equal, in buying or not buying.

Looks like he was sun-bleached. Maybe the heat lamp was too intense or too close to him and he couldn't easily escape it. I'm betting he gets darker again over time, though the older ones tend to have less intense colors. But it still looks like to much or too bright lights.
