How often is the best to feed unsweetened canned pumpkin? Whenever I want?

And is this conversation just about sucatas? Can my Russian have squash and pumpkin?

I offer it a few times a month...just another part of a varied diet.

I've fed both, over the years, to Hermann's, Greeks, Russians, Leopards, and sulcatas...likely most any tortoise will eat either.

If memory serves me, those are really gourds. Pie pumpkins are true pumpkins, but not those cute little tiny ones.

the mini pumpkins are almost all skin and tough interior,not a good choice for food. IMHO

so how do i prepare the pumpkin? so i slice some off(minus seeds)? or dig out the insides?

For smaller torts, I cut off a small chunk of pumpkin and run it across a cheese grater. I do the same with squash or carrots too.

Its more fun and less work for the big torts. I just take a whole pumpkin and chuck it hard on the ground. It magically disappears within an hour or two, seeds and all.

Good to know. I've just been buying the unsweetened canned pumpkin for Tonka. So he can eat the "skin", too? Buying a couple big pumpkins this fall will give me a good excuse to expand my cooking skills. Mmmmm....pumpkin pie :eek:)
