Hi Sliverstar,

Yes, I agree, But the Longbean leaves are best. Bean has too many protein expecially those peas. The best veg. to feed your Star is to see what Indian people eat in their day-to-day life.

Tortoises are different. We humans eat a variety of foods but star tortoises are meant to live on a high hibre, low protein and rich calcium diet. Maybe try feeding some dandelions?

I've read about that green bean field tortoises too. They seem to be healthy and doing fine on a fairly steady diet of them. I think they are fine to feed once in a while, but not all the time. All of my species get them once every month or two, but I don't have any stars.

I have fed green beans off and on to my Stars since I recieved them as little balls. They seem to 'like' them a lot, but I would not say they love them or pick them out first.

I usually snap the green beens to about 1/2" to 3/4" lengths and mix in with the rest of the food. What I am surprised about is the fact that a hatchling can munch through green beans with out any problem - no leftover either.

Not recommended. All kinds of bean cause pyramiding to tortoiseshell.
My Indian stars also like long bean so much.. But I've stopped fed them for a while.

This is an old myth. Not true at all. Pyramiding is caused by keeping baby tortoises in dry desiccating conditions and chronic dehydration, not legumes or other protein sources.
