I've been told this is how they are supposed to look -

The large female is a 2000 captive hatched that I've had since 2004.. notice the smooth growth? The yellow squash has been a staple in their diet.

Other views, etc. coming soon...

They look great!!!! Did you get all of them when they were younger?

Yes.. the 3 on the lower right [ 2.1 ] I've had for three years. Star tortoises grow very slow.

The 2 at the top of the pic [ 1.1 ] have been here going on 5 years.

Very pretty. Are you able to breed any of them yet?

Joy I'm sure she is old enough at 12.. waiting for the boys to catch up now.

A closer look at her -

It's perfectly normal for the "Mainland/Indian" STARS to grow up with a 'smooth' carapace!

Neal they are like little puppies... they literally come running when they see me! I tickle their pulsing throats [ they get excited knowing they are about to eat ] and rub their heads.

The yellow squash.. dandelions.. North American violets/weeds,etc. and occasional mushrooms [ store bought ] combined with the high humidity and temps [ inside and out ] aids in the 'proper' growth. Pics don't lie!!!

Female then - [ 4" SCL ] -

Last July - [ after rain ] - yes I let them get rained on.. and the temps were in the high 80's and so was the humidity!

interesting, so terry including squash during every meals won't have any health issues or any other issues with stars? I rarely give my stars squash but maybe its time to include it more when feeding...

Don't know what you.. or anyone else.. feeds your stars Joby - look at what was said under the group shot! Staple means main part of their diet.. not included - see anything else on their plate?

'Spose when they come upon a patch of what they like they park and feast there 'til it's gone? One thing at a time works for them and it's so much easier to provide that way too.

Pics don't lie..... [ soon be 8 YEARS I've kept them alive and healthy --- DUH!!! ]
