Does anyone know if Texas Ranger/ Texas Sage flowers or leaves are good food to add to baby Sulcata’s diet? I live in Phoenix AZ and they are blooming everywhere right now. All the old posts i have seen dont really specify and i cant find it on the tortoise table’s index. IMG_1495.jpegIMG_1498.png

No idea but it's gorgeous. @Yvonne G @KarenSoCal @Tom
Sorry, I don't know. I'm going to have to look for that around here. I don't remember seeing it.

I just searched Google for "leucophyllum frutescens toxic". One site said there are some people who make a tea from it. Another said it is not harmful to humans, except sometimes it attracts a caterpillar that definitely causes irritation to skin. Another said the plant creates a dust that is very allergy producing, and you should wear a mask when tending to it.

I would suggest you Google and read more sites since I didn't find anything relating to animals. You could use "toxicity of leucophyllum frutescens" as your search. Use the quote marks-it may help narrow down search results to what you want.

Everything I saw relating to animals said it was unpalatable (rabbit, deer "proof") but nothing said toxic. One site said it was nontoxic to pets.

It's in the mint family so probably fine. And likely the leaves are highly scented, like other plants in this family. So whether your tortoise will eat it is a long shot. Won't hurt to try.
