Here is my pet tortoise! Her name is Tilly. She a Horsfield/Russian tortoise. Ive had her since Friday 26th. I'm a beginner at all this but very enthusiastic. So any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

This was her first temporary home. A draw!

This was too small for her obviously! So we've, again temporarily placed her in a large dog bed and filled it full of tortoise life soil mix. And hemp bedding! :)

I've got a SunGlo 160W Mercury Vapour bulb providing the heat, light and UV rays for her. And some mud hills and a fake tree for her to navigate. :)

But she mainly likes to dig! :)

She has dug many holes!

She also eats loads! Roams a lot. And sleeps ALOT! Doesn't really wake up by herself yet. Going to leave her to wake up and move herself tomorrow and see what time that is. But she likes to bury her face and sleep in between eating!

She likes to watch TV with me :)

This is the make shift pen I've made outside for her to roam whilst I'm doing stuff in the Garage etc :)

There will be more pictures to come! :)
Going to make her a tortoise table and a carry container for her road trips! :)

First off, WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!:D
second may I suggest changing your substance, to something like dirt. Also a terra cotta saucer would do very nicely for a food and water dish.

P.s. Your Tort is adorable!

P.s.s. I also live your enclosure!:D

Oh and my Tort also likes to watch t.v. With me!

Hello and Welcome :). Ditto on the substrate change and food and water dish. A piece of tile or flat rock also works good for food. Helps keep beak and nails trim. Also add some real edible plants, works for hiding, eating and climbing. I like your make shift out door pen. Use anything to make tort happy right:D. Now that's a good tort owner:)

I was looking for some soil the other day, but I've read online about the different types and which one is suitable for Horsfield torts. Just wondering if it has to be any special soil or just local garden centre top soil?
Thanks :)

As long as there is no fertilizer in it....any should be fine. Hopefully someone will reply and give you a name of some that's good for your type of tort!! :)

Welcome to you and Tilly!! She is a cutie!!! :)

I've found somewhere that sells Sterile top soil. So I'm going to get some of that tomorrow :) Along with a shallower drinking bowl.
Then it will be time to build a tortoise table! :)

Tilly's renovated home!

I've replaced the substrate with sterile soil. And changed her water dish to a terracotta saucer which she's already been in for a little paddle :)

Any other suggestions? :)
