Timer for lamps ?

How many people use a timer for their lamps? Does it work well and what are some reliable timers??

I have everything on a timer, but you still have to check the temperatures in the enclosure and adjust your heat accordingly. On a cool day I need an extra heat lamp on, on a hot day I have to turn all the lights off...

Any timer should be fine. I like the simple mechanical ones.

My main thoughts on having a timer is making sure it shuts off ( or turns on ) in case we're not around to do it. I work in emergency services and you never know when you'll get called away or how long something will take.
