i just fed my 2mo herman said his first opuntia, he loved it, but I noticed he wasn't getting in any big bites, just scraping a tiny tiny bit away. Should I blend the cactus, or should I leave them in 1/2 in chunks? I want to let his mouth and neck grow strong and keep the beak trimmed, but since he is still a baby, maybe it is ok to blend, until he gets bigger?

Thoughts?

If he can bite it, then don't worry about it. I only ever used the blender because my sulcata couldn't actually bite the pad.

I feed whole young pads to hatchlings of every species I have. My tiny hatchling russians had no problem making the pads disappear. The sulcatas and leopard seemed to swallow them whole they disappeared so fast.

I prefer to feed whole leaves and things to babies because it give them something to pull against to get a bite off. Keeping the beak in good shape and muscles exercised is an added benefit.
