I was helping my neighbor clean out her painted turtles tank this morning. We found these white "stones". I keep tortoises and know about their urates, but nothing about turtles. This guy was a rescue and we have no idea what his previous living conditions were. Anyways, I'm wondering if this is urates or stones like kidney or bladder stones.

What is your set up like? Size of tank/swimming area? Do you provide a uva/uvb light? Do you have the water heated to 78 degrees at all times? What food are you offering your turtle?

Yes, a turtle can pass urates....just not as readily as you may find/see from a tortoise...

The turtle has a UVA/UVB light, heated water, a basking area and a waterfall with a filter. He's only in a 25 gallon tank which they plan to be upgrading ASAP. She's feeding him live, frozen and canned foods. Also he gets fruits and veggies.
