Hi I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations on substrate to go under the orchid bark so the tortoise can burrow. I use tortoise terrain but realise it’s not good for them.

cheers

Coco coir will hold moisture and allow for digging.
Don't use anything that has white bits or sand in it, both can cause impaction in the gut.
Have you read the caresheet to see what is recommended?

Do you have a Redfoot?
They don't generally dig down. They just kind of wiggle down until they sink into the substrate a bit.
Make sure you don't use sand. Also, Orchid bark holds moisture. Be on the lookout for stale areas under the Orchid bark and in top of the new substrate.that might get moldy.
Personally, I'd just go deeper with the Orchid bark. It doesn't usually grow mold.

I recommend 3-4 inches of orchid bark. They can dig into that.

Thank you, I thought it would be a good idea to have a underlaying substrate but if just orchid bark is okay i will go with that.

Thank you for the help
