Hi guys, I noticed an unusual mark on my sulcata's shell. It was only one mark, I checked on other places but found nothing. I soak him every morning for 30 minutes, he's almost 1 year old. The enclosure temperature and humidity are normal (closed enclosure; temperature 30-33', with a cool spot etc. Humidity a bit low lately, around 75%, but usually it was 80-90%. The substrate is cocobark). He acts normal (no loss of appetite, pooping and peeing regularly). So nothing concerning besides the mark.
Is it normal, or do I need to worry?

Just looks like a bit of marbling to me personally🙂cute fella!
It does seem like marbling, but I thought sulcata didn’t have any marbling on their shell? I am paranoid that it’s a shell rot since lately I didn’t really pat him down after soaking, since his enclosure is drier than usual I thought it was okay.

I don't think it's anything to worry about. Looks like maybe a very slight injury, like a skinned knee would be on a human.

I haven’t personally seen it on a sulcata but zooming in it looks exactly like that. I guess at worst it could be a slight scrape like Yvonne suggests, but I definitely don’t think it’s rot, that tends to happen on the plastron and doesn’t really happen in sulcatas🙂

Is it just discoloration or is there a different texture also?

Looks like an interesting color anomaly to me. Nothing to do about it.

I never dry my tortoises after a soak. I let them air dry in their enclosures. I do rinse them with non-mineralized water to prevent hard water stains.

You generally don't need to worry about shell rot. Is there holes in the carapace at that location? If there is then the only thing to worry about. Is to make sure flies don't lay eggs in the hole.
