How long and how often do I need to keep a Repti-Glo 10.0 UV strip light on for a hatchling EBT? Also, does it need to be on every day every week if i take him outside once a week? Or does taking him outside mean you don't need the UV on for that week? Sorry if this doesn't make sense!:shy:

If you use the strip light, have it on a timer 12hours on/off. People typically use it every day.

However, I learned from an experienced TFO member that as long as your tort/turtle is receiving a few hours of natural sunlight a week you will not need UV bulbs for the indoor enclosure.
The UV levels they get from the sun is much more than they get from an inside light.

If you can do an hour a day of outside time, even better!

Hope this helps

Someone asked a similar question a while back. Someone replied that as they understood it one hour of natural sunlight is equal to 24 hours under a UVB light. I didn't see anyone dispute that on that thread....anyone have a different answer?

I have heard something very similar to this. I even began digging into the research of understanding the levels of UV from the sun and lighting but it was too overwhelming for me to continue!

Minimally, I know that the sun's UV is ALOT more than the UV lighting. I also learned that UV bounces around and a tort outside can still be receiving beneficial amounts of UV while in the shade.

I believe if they are not getting natural sunlight then it needs to be 12 hours a day. :)
