Hey,
I just brought my 5 month old (about) russian tortoise outside in the backyard for almost an hour.
Under the sun, he started running around, and he was faster than I've ever seen him (I just got him last week :D )
But when I picked him up to bring him back inside, I noticed he was blowing bubbles out of his nose.
Is this normal when theyre hyper active?
(I live in Hamilton Ontario, and the weather is pretty darn hot right now, 31º Celsius)

Hi pzowt:

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!!

May we know your name?

There may be no reason to be concerned. A few bubbles here and there really aren't "trouble." He may have gotten too hot after all that exercise. Usually when you see a normally sedate tortoise all of a sudden "running around" and extremely active, its an indication the tortoise is afraid and looking for a way out of danger.

Did the tortoise have shade?

If you suspect a respiratory infection, then just adopt a wait-and-see attitude. If he loses his appetite or if the bubbles turn into a mucousy, colored discharge, then you should worry.

The occasional clear bubbly nose doesn't mean much.
