Stephanie Logan said:Taco is a Chaco tortoise from Argentina. She still has remnants of old fingernail polish I put on her 3 years ago so I could find her in the foliage of our back yard. She is six years old now, and is my garden tortie. I let her roam the securely fenced front garden during the day, and take her out for walks along the greenbelt (she wanders, I follow) and down by the creek. At night she sleeps in a half crate in our fenced back garden while the weather is still warm (>60 degrees at night). Once fall begins, I will return her to her heated tortoise house in the basement.
She has been eating better and actually growing a little larger and heavier this summer. Everyone thinks she is so cool, and want to learn about her and tortoises in general whenever they see her out and about. I keep a pretty close eye on her, but do enjoy teaching people about tortoises and cautioning them on the high-maintenance needs of these critturs. I explain that her deformities are due to our ignorance and neglect in her early years.
She is still so dear to me and I am devoted to her daily care and routines.
It's nice to see so many familiar names in the posts and threads on this forum! Happy torting, everyone.![]()
