I got an add from Amazon a while ago for this device a while ago... the idea was that beyond being a multiple plug extension cord, it could also work with Alexa and an app for time and such... I thought I'd give it a try in my newest tortoise's enclosure (Nelson's).
We had a power outage yesterday, and while the power was out for nearly 12 hours, the house and torts were fine because we have a backup generator (which my office, where the torts all live, is wired to supply power to).
When I went to check on them in the morning, I was happy to feel the room still warm and humid and to see lights had come on automatically in three of the enclosures... not in Nelson's. The "smart" power strip had reset in the momentary power interruption, and by default did not come back on.
I switched out the clever cord for a more 'salt of the earth' variety, one that was perhaps a bit less intelligent, but harder working. Because of the ambient heat in the room, and lingering warmth in Nelson's enclosure, the temp never cycled down below 75, so I'm not worried, but I won't be using this product in any of my tort enclosures, and wanted to share the experience with TFO, in case anyone else was similarly tempted.
