I am looking to rehome a female red-footed tortoise. I took her in May 2018 from a terrible situation. The previous owners (a relative of my boyfriend) had her in a 10 gallon aquarium and their dog had already attacked her. They were threatening to just let her go in the yard. I took her knowing I couldn't keep her long-term and planned on finding a permanent home for her after a few months of giving her proper care. A few weeks turned into 2 years.

When I got her, her shell measured 4”x5”. She is now 6.5”x9” and weighs 5lb 2oz. She had no coloring in the beginning likely due to a terrible diet but her coloring is vibrant now. She has a 3’X4’ indoor enclosure and when the temperature is appropriate, she has a 4’x8’ outdoor enclosure with an automating misting system and plenty of tortoise friendly vegetation. The damage the dog did to the shell has been growing out with her growth. I have marked all of the damage in the two of the photos. It seems like she is growing at a steady rate now that she has the correct nutrients. I’m not quite sure how old she is, the previous owners said they had her for 5 years and I’ve had her for two so perhaps 7? I’m not sure if she would be stunted from being in a small enclosure for 5 years.

I am willing to drive her to her new home at no cost to any of the following states: CA, AZ, NM, NV, CO, UT, WA, OR, ID or WY. I am not collecting a fee but I would like to hand deliver her so I can see where she will be living. I’ve grown attached to this girl, taking care of her and talking to her so she recognizes my voice. I’ve spent too much time getting this girl back to good health and watching her thrive to ship her.

I have many more photos and videos of her eating and exploring. If you are interested, we can schedule a phone call or a virtual meet & greet.

The fact that he/she walks with the whole body off of the ground is a very good sign.
It's likely that it'll still live a nice, long life.
Ask a lot of questions to anyone enquiring about your RF to try to determine their expert level and intentions.
I'm too far away to offer my help in person.
Best of luck to you.

She’s so precious. I would love to give her a home, but I’m in Tennessee. I hope whoever you find gives her as much love and patience as you have ❤️

She is so beautiful! Bless you for caring for her properly and saving her from the previous owners! We live in southern Indiana but would love to take her! We just adopted a 10 year old male and he is delightful and thriving. We have been looking for an enclosure buddy for him to keep him company. We have a 15x15 outdoor enclosure that is secure. I know you will not ship, but let me know if you would be willing to meet!
