My T5 and Halogen basking lamp work great but setting for colder evenings now how do I set a CHE thermostat. What happens the basking light will stay on and the Che light won’t come on.

Halogens lamps should not be used over tortoises. That will cause pyramiding. You need a regular incandescent flood bulb. What size and species of tortoise are we talking about?

CHE do not emit light. Only heat. That is why they are good for night time.

Please take a few minutes to read through this thread. Heating and lighting is explained lower down the page, and your questions are welcome.

Yes I’m aware of the working dynamics of ceramic heat elements. My issue is getting it set to come on. What temperature range do I set the thermostat for!
For a sulcata, the temperature should never drop below 80 day or night. So the coldest part of the enclosure, farthest from the CHE needs to be 80 at a minimum.

Check this thread out. Most of the info found from most sources for this species is all wrong. This thread will help you grow a healthy baby:

You want to make sure no part of your enclosure is below 80f day or night, I’d set it around 82 and place the probe in a corner furthest from the ceramics.
Also second toms comment on no halogen bulbs!

You might find this starter housing thread I made useful, it covers correct equipment(lighting, heating, uv), levels, importance of closed chamber for younger growing torts, appropriately maintaining humidity, substrates, there’s lots of visual examples for everything and a really handy diet link to check out!

This includes some different closed chamber options

This one can also be really good to go over, it’ll help you avoid the wrong bulbs(explains a little bit about halogens)substrates, housing etc, I always encourage double checking purchases on the forum too before buying

Hope they help!🐢💚
