Hi guys!!
So i've been looking at multiple variations of UVB lights on blogs and all that, and they are seem to be $50 0r more!!
Any recommendations for good bulbs thatll keep my turtle healthy but ones that are cheaper than $50?
Hi all,
I just received a pair of 3-Toed Box Turtles about 2 months ago. These are my first turtles and my first reptiles. This lack of experience is the reason I am posting. I keep them outside in a spacious enclosure, and the female just laid a clutch of eggs about a week ago.
I have...
I'm looking to buy some LEDs for my vivarium, but am struggling to find any that are suitable.
I bought one LED, but it doesn't give off enough light.
What LEDs has everyone else bought? I'm looking for links to the exact ones ideally.
Also the LED needs to be wired of course, so that I can...
Hi, I’m new to this so I don’t even know if I’m posting this question in the right place but I bought two baby (6month) red foot tortoises and a ‘beginners set up’ from my local pet shop and basically I think they didn’t give me enough information and was just misleading me and wanting to rip me...
Hi, just joined because I have so many questions with lighting my tortoise correctly. I used to just have the normal 100 W lights you can get at any pet store from Zoomed. However their bulbs kept breaking on me so I needed a new option. I asked at my local reptile store what can I do...
Hello Tort enthusiasts!
I am a new Tort mom to Hebe, a Redfoot hatchling, who is 3-4 months old now. Hebe was a surprise for my husband. He is tortoise and turtle lover and has been missing something since is box turtle, Andrea, died a few years ago.
Hebe is doing well (eating, soaking...
Hi, I'm new to the forum but a long time turtle lover. I want to purchase a hatchling or yearling sulcata tortoise in the near future and I decided to do more in depth research before I do, thank heavens for finding this forum. I've read so many threads and I've got lots of information but if...
Hello I am new here
I recently purchased a red foot hatcling currently I am having a bit of trouble raising its basking temperature
I have a 100w heat bulb with a 15w uvb in a zoo med mini combo lamp
However I have switched my uvb bulb with a 60w red heat bulb in a effort to raise the...
Greetings All
Just received Reptile Basics latest email update with new items for keepers of reptiles. One of the highlighted items is this new DHP heating lamp and I’m wondering what this Tortoise Forum thinks about it.
Link to photos, video and the entire description -...
Hello, while I wait for my AP cage, I was hoping to get some advice regarding lighting. The enclosure will be 84"Lx30"Dx24"H. I hope to have the UV mounted approx. 18" above substrate. What kind of output do I need? Also, for incandescent fixtures, how many and at what placement? I was...
I have a 65w flood light and i use a basking rock. the bulb sets 11'' from the substrate and rock, but barely reaches and stays 90. I have a dimmer switch on it and it is all the way up. So, I temporarily put in a regular incandescent bullb that is 50 - 150. At 150w it maintains temp around 96...
Hi all
I’ve had winston for about a year and a half now. No idea how old he is sadly :-( he was pretty tiny when I got him from a pet shop so can’t be too old......
he was sold to me in a viv, and after getting him home and doing more research (I know I should’ve done more first!) he’s now in...
Hey all! Newbie asking another question again. :p
Currently, I have a 26 watt, Reptile UVB 150 Desert UVB bulb from the ExoTerra brand. It's right around a foot above the substrate, and thus probably somewhere from 8-10 inches from the actual tortoise shell. It does sit on top of a rather...
Hey everybody I'm Nick, the handy half of the ilovekitty team. First off, Id really like to just thank everybody on the forum here, without you guys i would probably be telling Katlyyn to just go throw them in the fish tank. Thankfully though I found you guys and i am now working on giving our...
Hoping you all can help me...
I have two Russians and a baby sulcata . They go outside in the sunshine during the week but I bring them inside at night and when the weather is bad (Florida life).
But- I’m sick and tired of the zoo med bulbs breaking and costing a fortune. My question to you...
I noticed recently that the cool end of my tort's enclosure was a little too dark, so I decided to add a fluorescent strip to that side to help with ambient lighting.
I happened to have an extra bulb from an aquarium, and I just wanted some opinions on whether it's an ok bulb to use in my...
Hi! EDIT: I have a russian tortoise, how can i forgot to add that important info!
I am new to this forum and am being overwhelmed by all of the information on here, in a good way!
I have a few questions. So I live in Southern California and can only keep my tortoise outside. Does she need any...
I am currently using the ZooMed 10.0 T8 18" tube light for my baby Russian tortoise's enclosure. It is about 15" away from him, which is as close as I can get due to the size of the tank. Is that an ok distance or too far? Would a reflector help if it's too far?
Thanks!
Over the years, I've learned that most things sold and marketed by reptile supply companies can be purchased MUCH cheaper if you know where to shop. But, I don't want to take a chance when it comes to the UV lighting. I know that Mercury Vapor bulbs have been around for quite some time, and you...
Hi,
I have a map turtle and 2 musk turtles in a 75 gallon all fully grown. I am struggeling with lighting it at the moment. Im currently using https://www.amazon.co.uk/Reptile-Vivarium-Clamp-Lamps-White/dp/B008E5JU8Q/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1521990631&sr=8-16&keywords=heat+lamp which keeps...
