My little constellation all get their soaks around 4:00 in the afternoon: 90-95 degrees for about 30 min.
As I'm pretty sure everyone knows, this is for hydration as well as eliciting pooping so they poop in the soak water that gets discarded instead of pooping all around their enclosure.
Quinn is my best soak pooper: he always poops once and often twice!
Iggy is also a good pooper: always once and occasionally twice! But he's also my escape artist- I'm going to have to get him a tub with higher sides...
Cory is much more laid back than the other two. She never tries to get out of her soak- she just stretches out and enjoys it! But without all the exercise trying to get out, she has NEVER pooped in her soak. So of course I sometimes find teeny tiny tortoise turds around the enclosure!IMG_2369.jpegIMG_2422.jpegIMG_2424.jpegIMG_2425.jpegIMG_2329.png

GEEZ LOUISE!!!!!
I just nearly had a heart attack!
I checked on the babies and found Cory UPSIDE DOWN next to their food dish!!!!!!!!!

I grabbed her and held her right side up in my hand. She was awake, alert and looking at me. Her legs had been hanging out, but she pulled them in and kept them there. Other than lifting her head to look around, she wouldn’t move much after I set her down in front of their favorite hide. She has just crawled inside. I had only just put the food down a little while before, so I doubt she was flipped more than 10 or 15 min, but still…😱

All I can figure is that she was standing on her little back legs to climb in the food dish and over balanced. The dish is a terracotta plant saucer that is slightly recessed into the substrate.
I dug out the substrate and replaced the dish so that the lip is now FLUSH with their surface of the substrate.
DANG!!!!
But I’m SOOOO GLAD I checked: we were about to leave for Easter brunch with friends and would have been gone HOURS. Just writing that makes me feel ill…☹️

I’m making us late while I sit and watch her. But she was moving normally as she crawled back into her hide.
So, we’ll go ahead and leave for the brunch…
I will NOT fret about Cory…
I will NOT fret about Cory…
I will NOT fret about Cory… (sigh)…
