I ran the gammut with addictive painkillers. Drs used to hand them out like candy and what real boy doesnt like candy? You know who the worst was? The NFL, they gave me 100 10mg Vicodins at a time....with refills!
No more of that stuff though....

I've been recommissioning a fifty year old bike from my shed, a hand built, worldwide collaboration with a guy in Canada and another in Iowa. A wrist- rocket Kawasaki H1 2 stroke constructed 11 years ago incorporating several engine mods along with extreme porting. I had to recover a seat for it the other day.....still looks "homemade" but I was really thankful for it keeping my butt planted yesterday!
Holy beJesus, it goes much faster than my purple H2 and might even beat my 22psi turbocharged 650! The bike is a rat bike. It wasn't made to look "pretty", it was built to accelerate fast...really fast and boy does it deliver. This bike is "racetrack fast" which is very different from street-fast. I feed it 100 octane gas.
This is a very special engine above 6000 rpm.
So I ride up to the local motorcycle shop yesterday to show my friend who helped me earlier this past week but he had a sign on the door and was out for a couple hours.
I killed myself to get it running yesterday to show him because it was supposed to rain lastnight. It's sunny this morning and of course never rained last night! LOL

So why was the NFL giving you pain meds? Seems like there is a story there.

There is a place in NE Ohio called Nelson's Ledges where some interesting road races are held (or at least used to be - I haven't been there in decades). Paul Newman and James Garner drove there in some of the car races back in the 1960s-70s.

Once upon a time I helped with verification time-keeping on a 24 hour motorcycle road race there. (The riders would have monitors sit approximately where the finish line was and keep track of the number of laps their bikes made to verify that it matched what the officials had counted.) There were several tiers of engine-size classes of bikes running, and by a little ways into the race it got so that I could tell when "my" bike lapped the stands just by sound. It was amazing. I don't remember how many were running, but it was more about 8-10per class. ("My" bike finished above two classes bigger.) I don't remember size or brand at this point (I know,! How could I... 'think it was a Kawasaki, just not certain), but it was one of the more noteworthy experiences I have had.

The guys were serious; several had done the race before, and they were determined to be the best-in-class this particular year. They decided to have their pit crew wear the same coveralls so that they were easily identifiable...and to use white ones (think of all the grease, and the crud on knees and hand wipes on the legs...) so that bleary-eyed riders could easily tell which pit was their own. They definitely stood out, though. They also practiced timed pit stops prior to the race and walked the track to really know it.

Anyhow, there were bikes like yours running in that race. Thanks for sparking memories!

Team Hammer....LMAO...thats who you are talking about. They were running a Kaw 1000 when I met them and raced them for the first time... @ Nelson Ledges Ohio! Small world!

Ok....NFL....in '92 I tried out for the Redskins and wrecked a knee in the process of making those spectacular memories! Lol they gave me drugs...lots of em too. Apparently, getting the highly paid players back on the field outweighs everything else. Make of that what you will but I'd caution against taking the advice of one of their Drs.even the famed Dr Andrews. Had I listened to him i would be crippled today. My knees aren't cup&socket. They are more like ball bearings on a saucer. Low stability.

Ended up being a beautiful day here but since I didn't sleep last night there was no motorcycle riding today. I did drive the convertible this morning and went to see my buddy at his shop. I was invited to bring my purple bike to a show next week. We might do that...we will see.

Kerry left to to a wake for a friends dad so I'm just relaxing on the deck making friends with a local crow. He's been coming around for a few days. He calls, we chat and I give him food. There's a young deer 30' away at the woods...cool as heck. I can't wait to see the fawns this year!

You and another brother of mine would like each other. He loves fixing bikes too. He owns the silver poodle that is the mother of my little Mr Fre. He totally reminds me of Grandpa on the show Duck Dynasty that got a poodle and the whole klan went ballistic. Her name is Briar if that tells you anything about her personality. This is what I passed on my way to the Library last Thursday.



They're still raggedy looking - you can tell by the trees in the background that Spring hasn't sprung here yet this year, so they still don't have much to eat. they come into town because the humans plant yards that are better to eat than the bushes they've cleared all winter. Give it a month and they'll be shiny and fat, shed their winter coats, and look amazing... just like a beer commercial

My son Jim, his stepbrother (Tim) and girlfriend (Sarah). Fished the years first salmon tournament. It was a 1 day tournament that they won. 46 boats entered the tournament. Their winnings were 1250 dollars. The tournament was held in Manistee Michigan on lake Michigan. Last year they took 2nd place in the tournament.

When we were at school mum had a bike which she used to ride to work but unfortunately my brother became interested mechanics and enjoyed taking her bike apart before putting it back together. He did the same with his glasses and he would remove the lenses, put them in soak and then put them back together!!!

Another day of fun and hi-jinks at the Nook this morning. I woke alone....kerry got too hot and bailed to a downstairs bedroom.

Those bighorns are awesome animals. I figured they came to town because the bears and wolves who eat them generally don't. Very cool stuff. It does show the contrasts in Spring between the mid Atlantic and the Rockies.

There's a thing I noticed on the Turtle forum a couple years ago...there is a universal appreciation for nature......

These photos remind me that I saw a fox crossing the road out of the back window of the car while driving yesterday. Never seen a fox outside a zoo before. Our UK members can probably correct me, but I believe there are quite a bit of city foxes in the UK?

About addictive pain killers, in the here in Finland there was this aspirin based painkiller that was commonly used to treat fevers in children that contained some Amphetamine in the fifties. They changed the addictive recipe, but the whole drug was banned in 1998 due to the organ damage it could cause.

Yes, there are quite a lot of city foxes around - when I lived in London, I would see foxes sunning themselves on shed roofs in the sunshine, with their babies.

Lyn I will be watching the VE day flypast on the cliffs at 1.45 pm today. I will think of my Uncle Alan who was killed in Italy but I will also think of nana when she used to take mum as a baby to the cliffs to see the Germans coming up the Thames before they were evacuated to Rayleigh when Southend used to try and stop them.

A pilot radios Frankfurt airport since he's not sure where to taxi after he lands. The Tower asks, how do you not know where to go? Have you never been to Frankfurt airport before.
Pilot replied that he had..." I was there twice during the war but it was dark and we we flying at 10,000 feet and oh, we didn't land.

Tower gave him his directions without another question.
