My Tort seems to bury himself every night he goes to bed. When i wake him up I literally have to uncover him to get him out. Does anyone elses tort do this? Is it normal behavior?

Mostly every morning. The last couple days he’s popped out in his own.

Yep they’re trying to counter that 1% survival rate when they’re young. So they mostly hide. Once they learn you provide the food and there’s no other predators, they will get more bold.

There you go, Cherryman304! A self-preserving instinct is all it is and a good one too - maybe depending on what he is burrowing down into!

Just a general consensus I quote when talking about turtle survival rates.
What else did I say that seems questionable? [emoji3166]*justk kidding!*

Yeah I mean he must feel pretty safe because the other night he just stayed out in the enclosure. It was funny because he literally just put his head down and slept right where he was all night.

Aww melts your heart doesn’t it. Mine did the same until an hour before lights out and crawled into a mound of sphagnum. Instinct tells them to hide, but they’re so smart they learn the feeling of safety.. I fee they do anyways.

Yeah because I turned the timer on to turn on the lights and caught him out of his hide just sleeping so hurried and shut the lights back off. And laughed after because it was so cute.

A "humid hide" is a preferred place for a baby Redfoot to sleep.
Something like a small box or flowerpot with moist moss or something inside.
They like to always feel safe.
Even my adult Redfoot spend a lot if the day hiding and all night.
