This little redfoot is 14 days old. Just gave it a soak and looked at his underside. There is still a fleshy tender looking spot where its yolk sac was. Is that normal?

Yes. It takes a little time to harden off.

Thanks. That makes me feel better. I just thought it would be all closed up by now.

I don't like to place my babies until that spot is all gone. And by that time I'm quite sure they're eating and being healthy.

He was on a damp paper towel at first but i added sphagnum moss for him to hide in. He has taken a few bites of some greens and i have also seen him eat or at least taste the moss.

How long does it normally take for the yolk sac to close off? Sometimes the pinkbtender fleshy part looks bigger, sometimes smaller.
Ive heard 3 weeks and ive heard 5 to 6. If its supposed to be 3 weeks it doesnt look like its gonna close up by then.
