Hi hoopalou:

Welcome to the forum!!

May we know your name and where you are?

Usually you wait 2 weeks to notice any blood vessels, but different species make different time frames. What kind of egg is it? Good luck...hope it's fertile.

Oh...silly me!! Of course, its a Hermann's!! Duh!

Hi, Sorry for being so rude and not introducing myself..... I'm Louise from Ireland. I have 1.1.2 hermanns and a 2 year old Sulcata (which I've had since he was teeny tiny and still had a mark from his yolk sac.)
I'm married to a farmer and have lot of land for him and stone buildings for when he's older, (the sulcata :)

(This is a hermann egg from a female that I re-homed in February, my 9 year old male has been trying to mate her like mad, but I'm not sure if he has managed :) she is much much bigger than him.

I got my first Tortoise (my male) seven years ago, but have been crazy about tortoises for much longer.

I have three small children and work from home as a silversmith.

This is a great forum!

You should be in a dark room with your torch on the egg. Turn the flash off on the camera and take your pics. It looks like there is a light on in the room. You will have a hard time being successful candling with a light on in the room. Pitch black is the best. Also, at this point in the development, try and take the pic straight down on the egg with your torch off to one side. The first thing you will notice is the egg starting to "chalk"

Thank you... I'll do that tonight! There was no flash on in the camera, but it was daylight. Fingers crossed!
