Is anyone currently keeping a fly river turtle? i would like to talk about the best way to care for my baby frt. Substrate, food, shell appearance, etc. View attachment 356573
They are almost totally aquatic, somewhat like sea turtles, and rarely even get out of water. One of my friends kept a number of them, and they were kept separately in huge tanks with sandy bottoms and some plants. I don't recall there even being any areas where the turtles could get out of the water, although there might have been small platforms in the tanks for them to rest on which I don't recall seeing.

Anytime I was at his house, the turtles were swimming around in their tanks constantly. Each tank was custom made and about 8 feet long and about 4 feet deep and 4 feet wide. They were very large and so were the turtles. The adults were roughly 14" long as I recall.

im trying to find out if his shell is normally supposed to look like that. it may just be shedding or something
Has the shell been dried out for a period of time? Maybe during shipping?

It doesn't look very bad to me, but I am not an expert on FRT. I seem to recall that they can be prone to getting fungus infections on their shells. You may need to add something to the water to keep that from happening or else keep the water quite well aerated.
