I want to hear from anyone who has a Sulcata hatchling or has records of previous hatchlings, I want to hear what your hatchlings weigh at what ever age the weight is documented/taken.. Please list age and weight, (eg, 6 weeks 56 grams) I have my own hatchling and I know their growth varies widely even in related hatchlings, just want to have something to compare my Sully to.. Thanks!!

Mine hatch at 35 usually. I've had them hatch as low as 32 and as high as 41. Last year, they were 112-123 grams by 4 months of age, but that was on the fast side of normal. I bought some 9 month old hets that were 120-130 grams earlier this year too. That would be on the low side.

My scale is probably all wrong but my 3 month olds weighed in at 25 grams..that's not even an ounce. I'm hoping the scale is wrong or my babies are severely underweight.

I think your scale might be off Holly. I've never seen a 25 gram sulcata. Give your scale the four quarters test. Someone recently posted a reference for how much four quarters weighed. I'm not at home, so I don't have my scale. Can other please weigh four quarters and post what you get please?

On my scale 4 quarters weigh 25 grams which is the same as my babies. Is that right?

my baby weighed 49 when he come 2 weeks ago, he is now 55, 3 grams a week so far :).. I cant imagine a sulcata tort half his size, he is tiny, i think your scale is off, the quaters are weighing correctly if I remember right but the tortoise, I'd weigh him again

I recently lost a baby leopard. He was about 4 months old and weighted 20 grams. He only gained a few grams since I had him. I think sulcata babies are bigger than leopards. Unless your torts are younger than 3 months old, otherwise, I think they are underweight. I wish I has done something earlier, maybe my baby could have been be saved.

They very well could be younger then 3 months since the lady I bought them from didn't give me a straight answer. I'm sorry for your loss! Are there any ways I can get them to gain weight? I've tried mixing some of the zoomed tortoise food with romaine but they won't eat it or they'll just pick out the romaine. They don't eat very much and I've noticed they're quite picky. I don't want them to die :'(

Have you taken them to the vet to see if they have parasites? i would do that, just make sure you bring fecal samples with you that are fresh. if they are negative i would give them a better diet....spring mix, cactus, fresh weeds.

If you weight a nickle it is suppose to weight exactly 5 grams. If your worried about your babies weight i would increase soaks and feed him a few times a day. when my guy was little he seemed to like the food as fresh as it could get rather than eat half and come back to eat wilted lettuce. Also Mazuri is a good item to add to your torts diet. mazuri will help your tort put on some grams rather fast.

Not all the babies are born equal. Some eat like piggies and some just not interested in food like mine. My baby could not target at food very well and it took him very long to eat a small pile of greens and he could have parasites too... I don't know. There are reasons why the baby is not gaining weight and you should find out ASAP to prevent it gets worse. Please refer to my post "underweigt baby leopard" where I received a lot of good advises from experts in this forum.

Awesome chart, I'm recording mine in book, but I like this chart.. For the girl with the 25 gram hatchlings, can u post a pic, I dont have any advice as I'm just a novice but would love to see your babies.. And what does everyone think about green leaf lettuce? I feed my hatchling spring mix, I think it comes with four different types of baby greens/lettuces and I add green leaf and red leaf, my Sully loves the green leaf but always eats a bit of everything in the mix, he is gaining about 3 grams a week so far, so thats not bad, but just wanna know what every one thinks of green leaf, dont see it mentioned too much

I soak both of them daily (for as long as they sit there so up to 30 min.) and spray their shells 3-4 times a day. I try to get them outside as much as possible but I probably get out there 2-3 times a week. I would feed them more if they ate it but they never even finish it their first time..there's always half left. My mom won't let me take them to a vet to make sure they don't have parasites..is there anyway I could tell if they have them?
