Found this girl in local pet shop. Owner passed away. Pyramided, but otherwise what do you all think? 1410222177364.jpg

Aw, she looks healthy despite the pyramiding. Good on you for bringing her home!

Looks good to me. Did you pay for her? Or they just gave her to you?

Well! ! !

As long as you like her, It all worth.

Did she have a mate??
Not to my knowledge. The lady had her, 2 Sulcatas, a couple of Russians and several others that I don't remember what kind. She is at least 15 years, 15 inches and 18 pounds.

Nice going! Now your challenge is a good enclosures. Keep us posted.
Indeed. Built a 30 square foot enclosure in one of my bedrooms and an 50 square foot enclosure outside, with cinder blocks. Will build a night box outside in the spring and make it bigger with a hide n plants..... Unfortunately the inside enclosure is as big as it can be until another kid graduates and moves out. My biggest challenge was figuring out what to soak her in.

Wow, looks like you're swimming in leopard tortoises now. :)

Her isn't the worst I've seen, but she's got a nice beak so I would like to think that means she's been outdoors and grazing for awhile. How about a plastron shot?

Thanks for the replies. I will post plastron shot tonight Neal. She is fairly stressed out and I am torn on a vet visit. The vet is an hour away, but she has noisy breathing and I am not sure she is holding herself as high as she should when she walks. Her nose is clear n her eyes look ok I think. She eats pretty good. Not a fan of grass, sigh. I built an indoor enclosure 30 square feet wit an attached humid hide for night. Coir substrate through out, a lot for the record. She has uvb tube light n basking area. Temps are all good. She has an outside enclosure too. Temp one, but gets her outside every day. Keeping her quarantined of course n being very careful to wash everything after contact including hands. Anyway, is the stress of vet visit worth it? Anything else I am not thinking of?

From what you've described, if it were me, I don't see any urgent need for a vet visit. Eating well is a good sign. Is she pooping? :)

It has been my experience that older tortoises take a lot longer to settle in than young tortoises after being placed in a new environment. It sounds like you have her set up well. I would keep doing what you're doing and feed her as much as she will want to eat. Keep a close eye for any fluid from the nostrils or any lethargic behavior.

Perfect. Thank you. She has pood a little. Was not as much as I was expecting given her size. I was planning to soak her twice a week. It is an ordeal with her size. Is that enough? From what I have read maybe not necessary, but am concerned with the breathing and her water dish in the inside enclosure is not quite big enough for her to self soak. She can soak front half or back half at a time.Having a hard time finding a saucer that big lol. This is the wrong season for planters. Using a hot water heater tray outside. It is plastic though n that would be a lot of water if spilled.

In my opinion, it is not as critical to soak a tortoise that size more than once or twice a week as it is supplying them with fresh drinking water at all times. As long as they have easy access to drinking water, there shouldn't be anything to worry about.
