Hey guys! So im getting a hermanns turtle in July, im super excited! I get materials to build my enclosure on wednesday, the wednesday in the april 20's (god only knows what day it is, woops) anyways i was wondering how big my first baby torts enclosure should be, the breeder told me it would last 2 years! I also know nothing about these guys so please please pleasee help me! I need to know everything to know about these guys! Im new to this forum, planning on naming him tortie :)

Nobody knows how fast they will grow. There are a lot of variables. In all cases, bigger enclosures are better.

Where are you? Better advice can be given if we know where you are. Someone in Phoenix might need to do things differently than someone in Seattle, for example.

Hi, sorry i am in terrace british columbia canada. The humidity is a bit on the lower side at 20-30% its usually about 0 to -5 in the winter 20-30 in the summer, celcius of course. I will have 3x8 slides of thin boards, what kind of lights should i use, what kind of uvb, what kind of subtrate? Im not shure on these things quite yet

Aaannnd it also rains and gets quite cold in the summer months so i wouldnt house outside.

Idk what a cuttle bone is either sorry
Cuttlebone - google it - is the bone of a Cuttlefish and is easily obtained from a pet store. You will find them in the bird section as people buy them for their budgerigars and canaries.

You can grate some up and put a little on food three times a week to get extra Calcium in your tort's diet and you can put the whole cuttlebone in the enclosure - chewing on it helps to stop a tort's beak becoming overgrown.
