What is Marbeling?

Its those white splotches on the OP's tort's shell.

Do a Google image search for "marbled redfoot" and you'll see lots of examples.

Not trying to hyjack this thread, but why does everyone love to have marbled reds? I think they look really cool- is that the only reason?

What your seeing in your little guy is more what we could call “new growth“ areas ., although with the variation and patterning , yes your little one will end up with some sort of marbling. As he/she matures depends on how strong that gene trait holds true as it matures.
Here is an example below .. “Rosso” around 4” Notice the same type of “white marking“ your little guy shows.and now 2 years later ……
you will see most of the white has diminished but if you look close the very first “ growth areas” they still do retain a sort of vanilla variegation/marbling . Extreme marbling will be very noticeable early on and can reach some very high degrees of “white” each of these below from 6”-8” specimens’ .

Interesting JD! Thanks for the info! You sure do have some really beautiful animals! So what I'm hearing is, it could go either way at this point. I sure hope to see some more show up!

PS: Franklin is just under 3.5 inches at this point, growing bigger and stronger every week!
