Hi everyone! My name is Joseph, and I just joined this forum after getting a baby Redfoot tortoise. I was giving him a soak today and inspecting his plastron and found some spots that looked kind of white. Can anyone tell me if that looks like a shell rot? Thank you!20171001_194020.jpg

It MIGHT be the beginnings of shell rot. Try to get your substrate to be moist underneath, but fairly dry on top. It won't hurt any to apply athlete foot cream to the shell even if it's not shell rot. Sort of a nip it in the bud approach.

Okay, I will try that. Is there any athlete's foot cream or active ingredient that you recommend?

Nope. You can buy the cheapest one you can find.

Thanks for the confirmation! Here's what it looks like right now. I also bought plexiglass, which should come soon, because I'm having trouble keeping up the humidity without a cover.

I pour water into a corner so it flows in under the substrate, keeping the top layer dry.

Dollar store athletes foot cream and dollar store general antibiotic cream should be in your Redfoot "emergency kit".
Well. It doesn't HAVE to be the $1 variety..............

Haha yeah, I don't actually have a dollar store near my house, so I'll just grab a generic brand athlete's foot cream and antibiotic cream :)
