It's that time again...

Seems that everyone here is probably familiar with this labor of love...

Getting a (kind of) new tortoise in July so we just began building a new enclosure. Going to be quite the project and it is 80 degrees and only 9 am. I have such a love/hate relationship with tortoise enclosures. It is so incredibly awesome to get them built and arranged how you want, and then a week later you wake up with whole new plan. Does anyone else feel their yard is a 24/7 construction zone?

It's always a construction zone here. I actually tore down a 1300 spyware foot building because I had a better plan. I found it easier to use concrete so I can't change anything

Constant revisions, additions and improvements at my place too...

I only have one small 14 mo. leopard and I am still always changing things. I love doing it and love it more watching him discover the changes.

I have changed my indoor enclosures around so much! I keep getting ideas. Both my husband and I are having a "staycation" in two weeks. We are hoping to spend the time, BBQ'ing, having margaritas and finishing our outdoor enclosures. I'm looking forward to it!

Does anyone else feel their yard is a 24/7 construction zone?

Our back and front yard of the property is always under construction, between building greenhouses, landscaping, putting in mini pond with cascades, then redoing the massive back deck, repainting, putting in walkway paths & lights and so on and so on, its a never ending project LOL! But needs to look nice for when customers come here to purchase plants and for them to enjoy. Now we need to build the baby tort pen, just not sure where i want it located, maybe a huge portable one that i can move from place to place as so much of the yard area has several diffrent spots with many diffrent types edible weeds.

I wish my yard were a construction zone! Buuut, in my current rental, I don't think the landlord would appreciate my tearing up the yard... Plus the yard isn't fenced, and I don't trust the neighbor's kids as far as I can throw them. So the most I can do is throw together some little thing that I can store on the porch, so at least the shelled kids can get out in the sun when I have time to supervise.

The good news is, I'll be moving to SoCal in the fall, AND have permission to build semi-permanent tortoise enclosures. Yay!

Many years ago when my first tortoises were of a size to go outside for good I lived in a rental home. My 'semi permanent' enclosure turned out to be the model for the long term maze of enclosures at my current home. Good luck! Owning a large tortoise is definitely incentive to get your own place, it sucks breaking down all your hard work removing enclosures!

I spent this past weekend Sulcata proofing most of my potted plants after Vegas knocked over one of the Hibiscus plants and nearly ate the whole thing. Starting tomorrow I will start to reconfigure the enclosure for my two small sulcata's and I still don't know for sure what I am going to do to it.

Both my front yard and my back yard are constantly getting changed due to my getting bored easily with "same 'ol" stuff. My husband does a lot of landscaping for his business so I see so many cool ideas and want to incorporate them in our yard. We just changed our entire back yard last summer and I have already started my husband in on new changes, but this time I'm not hearing his frustration because he doesn't think he is doing the changes for me, but rather for our torts, which he is just as in love with. Definitely working out in my favor!!!

...Let's see now Since Feb I have built
...1 Viverium....

...1 out door enclosure...

...1 Water Hole/ soak pit...

....and of course my BIG project this year (so far...) my Twin Enclosure...

...and now I am building another one of those outdoor enclosures so the kids each have thier own yard....

OH "YES"! 24/7 construction zone for all things Tortoise!

I bet!! Breaking down and moving already sucks enough, even without a big ol' tortoise to build for. With any luck, by the time my Leopard starts getting too big for indoors, I'll have a yard of my own to rip up! And if not... Well, that's why I have a leopard, and not a Sulcata. LOL

I'm just glad this (hopefully final) big move is to a nice, warm climate... Having to build in hundred degree weather, and having a happy tortoise, beats building in nice cool weather, then not being able to use it most of the year for all the cold and rain. I like the PNW, but I'm not going to miss it!
