Ok, now about torts they are real stunners! I have to ask how many hatchlings and eggs do you currently have? You seem to have TONS! Your hands must be really full lately. :)

I know I'm not nearly as experienced as many of you guys but how can you tell they are cherry heads?

I think JD may be referring to them as 'cherry-heads' in a general way to describe a red-foot tortoise. Although they are pretty little guys for sure, nothing about them looks like a cherry-head to me. The legs are red and the heads yellow (northern, especially Suriname/Guyana trait) also the head scutes are very typical of northern red-foots and don't look like cherry-heads.
But they are JD's animals so I have to give him the benefit of the doubt as to what they are.

I may be missing it, but I also don't see the 'elbow spur' enlarged scale typical of red-footeds from Brazil (cherry-heads). I know many red-footeds from that region do not show the classic 'cherry red' colors, I thought the spur was a common element.

Of course, these also may be recessive traits that vanish when crossed with other red-footed strains?

Not to knock it, but I thought there were no confirmed hypo cherryheads. I know there are several mixes with hypo Northerns and regular cherryheads via Joe Terry. Maybe I am missing something?

Your right ...... thats what Joe labled them as..... and these came from him and went to John H and his buddy back east is what my documents say..... Although I have Northern X Northern Hypo Adults from Germany from 7 years back that have nothing to do with Joe T's gene line nor Wanda's animals ,that are producing this year for me more so than ever , I can tell you for sure there are two different gene lines within the group... as the hatchlings produced are completley different looking from one female to the other ( same male) . Even with this group are much different looking in head shape and scaling as opposed to the other Hypos I own .Here are some examples
All of these hatched by me- 2 different females x Same Father

Joe Terry is a really nice guy...but knowing what he did with boas back in the 80's makes me nervous about what he is doing with tortoises now. In other words, "Buying from Joe is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get"
